Family Fun Foto: Nice View of London Daddy

Though we’ve traveled as a couple before M was born, our first family tradition started in 2004 with taking a family trip to celebrate the combining of birthdays for all three of us and our wedding anniversary in the months of March and April.

Since 2004, we made this a tradition and began traveling as a family during every Spring break. Instead of giving material things for each other as gifts, we give each other our time and the gift of travel together as a family.  At least that’s the idea anyway!

It is my hope that through this blog we have helped explain this philosophy of LESS material things and MORE time and experiences together as a family.

Here is our trip to London in 2004.  We bought a backpack seat for M because we didn’t use a stroller on this trip. J did an awesome job carrying M all around London.

Thanks for a great view Daddy!

    1. Thanks for your comment Cassy.

I don’t think M is entirely convinced either with all the influences around her from all aspects of her life (school, friends, family etc.). But we still do it. We teach her and talk about it with her (almost daily).

Maybe start small. Take them to do volunteer work, expose them to situations where they can become insightful about the situation and the people enduring hardship. Help them see that materials things are fine for necessities, but beyond that is just obsessive consumerism to feed our emotional needs and egos, and nothing more.

      good luck!
