Any smart phone user can really extend the functionality of their phone by following the work of app developers, and checking out new apps in their “app stores” (don’t sue me, Apple!). But by the time you download an app sold in the ‘store,’ they are more or less a finished product. For Nokia owners, and presumably on other platforms, users can check out the Nokia Beta Labs. This is where Nokia’s software team puts together innovative ideas and let’s users who love to tinker to beta test these new apps. Your input as an end user might affect the development of the app. How cool is that?
So, if you happen to have a Nokia smart phone, especially one of the newer ones with Symbian ^3 Operating System, you’ll see many fun ideas happening at the Beta Labs, like the sleeping screen linked above. Wish I could have tried it out when I had the N8. The apps surely will be buggy, and cause issues, but that’s part of the fun. You can always uninstall it and move onto other apps.
What’s the point of being a geek if you aren’t a beta tester? Plus, it’ll give you more Geek Street Cred.
Feel free to comment (I’m talking to those 3 people reading my new blog), and share any geeky beta stuff you’ve tried with your phone.
